Dr. Norton Abramson, M.D.

Becoming a surgeon is the epitome of medical practice. While not all physicians feel the need to attain such lofty goals, others experience a moment of epiphany when, after practicing for years, they suddenly feel the urge to go back to school in an attempt to become a surgeon. This was never the case for Dr. Norton Abramson. From the moment he entered medical school, his ambition was clear: to become a world-class surgeon with great skill.

After graduating from Queens University Medical School in Ontario, Canada, and completing two surgical residencies, he headed for the west coast, for top training in Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at the University of California at San Francisco. As he vigilantly stayed the course on his mission to become an exceptional, first-rate surgeon, he completed a one-year fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the prestigious Stanford University.

During these years of intense training, Dr. Abramson began to notice that he was increasingly losing his hair. As a skilled surgeon, he was taught to solve difficult problems that result in a better quality of life. So, the doctor became the patient and underwent hair transplantation surgery. “It was really a thrill, after seeing progressively less hair for years, to look in the mirror and gradually see more and more!” smiled Dr. Abramson.

After years of building his surgical skills, and then experiencing the excitement of re-growing his own hair, Dr. Abramson made the decision to devote his specialty to hair transplantation surgery. “I was able to empathize with balding patients because of my own situation,” he said, “When I began doing the procedure it became obvious to me that I had a natural knack for it, I enjoyed it, and got great satisfaction from it.”

Dr. Abramson is board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology in Head and Neck Surgery. He is a Fellow of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery and American College of Surgeons. With more than 15,000 surgeries under his belt, he’s one of the most experienced hair transplant surgeons in the world. Having perfected the mini- and micro-grafting techniques, along with follicular unit hair transplantation, he is considered an authority in the field of hair transplantation science. Patients travel from around the world, including some of Hollywood’s most renowned celebrities, seeking Dr. Abramson’s expertise and artistic skill.

For Dr. Abramson, the most rewarding aspect of being a hair transplant surgeon is simply a job well done. “Knowing I’ve done my best for my patients and then seeing the psychological change in them as they regain their confidence is what it’s all about for me,” stated Dr. Abramson, “I consider myself to be, not only their doctor, but their friend as well.
